Along a woolen thread | 4 days tour

What links an industry that is a symbol of the highest quality in the world, one of the lightest waters in Europe, a varied and relaxing nature, the production of excellent food and wine and a group of tourism professionals?

A thread (naturally wool) that unites the many aspects of the Biella area and that is transformed into a quality tourist fabric, made up of warps and wefts, which come together in networks of small artisanal producers, of small but award-winning micro-breweries, of castles and sanctuaries, paths and trails that can be explored on foot or by bicycle...

Like modern Ariannes, let yourself be accompanied by this imaginary thread to discover our territory!

PROGRAMME

4 days / 3 nights

1ST DAY

Your Wool Travel Experience guide will be waiting for you upon your arrival in Biella, in the late morning, to begin discovering the city and its medieval village, the Piazzo, on foot with an easy walk.

But before taking a leap into Biella's medieval and Risorgimento past, we will taste one of the products, in addition to fabrics, that Biella's water has contributed to leaving us: craft beer.

We will stop to taste the beer and enjoy the dishes of a brewery in their restaurant in Biella Piano.

We continue our visit and after a few steps we will be able to learn more about a historic brand, born in Biella, of technical and sports fabrics: the Fila Museum, where it is possible to retrace the history of the brand, from its birth to today.

We then leave the museum and, first crossing Biella Piano and climbing up one of the "coasts" (as the people of Biella call the cobbled streets that climb up the Piazzo hill), we will reach, always in the company of your companion, the most historic part of the Roman Bugella Civitas, Biella Piazzo.

We will discover, crossing Porta della Torrazza, Piazza Cisterna, Piazzetta San Giacomo, the porticoes and along the streets of the village, ancient buildings and famous Biella families who made the history of the city and of Risorgimento Italy.

The afternoon will end with a dinner in one of the typical restaurants of the village and the subsequent descent to take your transport back to the funicular which has connected the two parts of Biella since 1886. Overnight at Hotel.

2ND DAY

After breakfast, we will begin a fascinating journey to discover the product of Biella excellence in the world: wool and cashmere yarns and fabrics. But not only…

We will leave for a historic wool mill, in Pollone, at the foot of the Biella hills, the Lanificio Piacenza. Member of an exclusive club that includes bicentenary companies owned by the same family, we will be able to visit the production departments exclusively and shop in the company store. But we will also be able to learn about the founder's gift to his employees and to the Biella area: the Burcina Park.

Overlooking the Lanificio, this park, born from Felice Piacenza's passion for botany, includes varieties of plants and flowers from all over the world which reach their maximum splendor in the month of May with the flowering of the rhododendrons.

We will then walk to discover it and we will be able to stop and have lunch among nature in one of its trattorias.

In total relaxation, we then return to the city to visit another wool mill, now transformed into a cultural excellence, not only Italian: City of Art, Pistoletto Foundation.

Born from the work of Michelangelo Pistoletto, the former Trombetta wool mill was transformed into a cultural workshop where art, territory and man's making (even spinning and weaving) came together. Concept expressed in the famous symbol, the Third Paradise, which you will discover after the visit to the Foundation.

After a few steps, we will relax and discover the history and products, always born from Biella water, of the Menabrea Brewery and Botalla Formaggi. Through the common exhibition itinerary of the MEBO Museum, we will explore their history, their families, their processing methods, their products.

At the end of this day of discovery, you can finally enjoy the rest of the evening by returning to the hotel (dinner not included) or with a dinner in the city, in one of the restaurants that your companion will be happy to recommend. Overnight stay.

3RD DAY

Even today we will set off to discover the textile past and future of the Biella area. First a dive into the past: transfer from your hotel to reach the Mosso Valley. We will cross the valley between factories and textile companies to arrive in Pray and visit the Fabbrica della Ruota, a museum of the textile industry in the historic Zignone wool mill. Inside this magnificent example of industrial archaeology, you will be able to relive the working days of an ancient wool mill, the various production phases, admire the only example in Italy of a still intact system of creation and transmission of energy through the use of water from the nearby Ponzone stream.

Let's leave the past and move to the other Biella valley rich in textile tradition, the Sessera Valley, to discover the history and legacy of the founder of one of the best-known fashion textile brands, Ermenegildo Zegna. The Casa Zegna Museum tells the story of the family and the brand, you will touch some types of raw materials, but you will also discover the birth of a dream of its founder which later became reality, the Oasi Zegna. Having left Trivero and the Zegna Center (with schools, sports facilities, hospital dedicated and used by the wool mill workers for generations), we will use the Panoramica road to reach the Oasis, a natural park surrounded by nature with a ski resort, walking routes and by bicycle, possibility of sporting activities in both summer and winter, hotels, restaurants, farmhouses and typical products.

And it is in one of the restaurants of the Oasis that we will have lunch and then relax with a relaxing walk in the nearby woods before continuing the journey. We leave the mountain landscape to enter another valley in the area, the Valle Cervo! Before going back down to Biella, however, we will learn about the story of mystery, superstition, magic and esotericism of another illustrious character from Biella and of the homonymous and most mysterious village in Italy: Rosazza.

We will walk through a place with enchanted architecture and full of mystery and symbolism and then return to the city. The choice is yours whether to return to the hotel for dinner (not included) or have dinner in Biella before your well-deserved rest.

4TH DAY

Before leaving the Biella area, you will discover other places and local products.

Going back to medieval times, the Ricetto di Candelo, one of the best preserved medieval villages in the Bel Paese, will welcome you for a dive into history. We will walk inside its "rue", the cobbled streets between its two-story buildings that welcomed the villagers and their food supplies in times of danger.

After this journey through time, we will undertake another journey, this time between continents, to reach and cross the Baragge Nature Reserve on foot. Called the "Biellese Savannah" for the environment and vegetation that are reminiscent of Africa, it is the Biella Alps and not Kilimanjaro that form the backdrop to this plateau, made up of vast prairies and moors, alternating with sporadic trees and wooded valleys. This very pleasant walk will end with a visit and tasting of the wines of a local producer. For lunch, before getting back into your car and leaving for the return journey, you can refresh yourself at one of the restaurants inside the Ricetto. Your companion will be happy to book a table for you. End of package.
